Vonage is giving their former CEO, Michael Snyder, 1.3 million dollars!!! Seems to me the money should be used to help settle Verizon’s patent dispute rather than giving it to some former employee.
Hint to my (soon to be) former place of employment: I would be a happy with………..  just a quarter of a million.

Here is an excerpt from an interesting and somewhat amusing post I found today regarding the Verizon versus Vonage patent dispute.
……the problem in these kinds of cases is that no one has the foggiest idea what the patents cover. So when a judge rules that your current product infringes some patent, you respond by re-configuring aspects of your product at random in the hopes that you can convince the judge that the new configuration does not infringe your adversary’s “technology.†………..determining whether a product infringes a patent in the software industry is about as scientific as reading tea leaves. The main difference is that, you usually don’t have to pay $600 million when you mis-read tea leaves.

Vonage Chairman, Jeffrey Citron, says they have developed workarounds for two of the three patents that Verizon says they are infringing on. Way to go, Vonage!! Show Verizon who is boss!!
By the way, we use Vonage for eMyPeople and it has been doing very well for us. It gets used quite heavily during the day.

Cnet is reporting that embattled VOIP provider Vonage may be pondering bankruptcy.
In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission Tuesday, the Internet phone service provider said the ongoing legal battles over patent disputes could eventually lead to liquidation of the company’s assets under bankruptcy protection.
Sigh. Do you know of any other good VOIP providers? No. Verizon isn’t an option.

Things are looking too good for Vonage. Engadget is reporting that Vonage is admitting there isn’t much possibility of a workaround to avoid Verizon’s Patents.
I’m hoping I will still have my phone line when I get back. ;)

I love my Vonage phone line, but I’m just hoping I can continue to keep it. Bug off, Verizon.
