Pro Microsoft Blog

Heheh.. Seth Stoltzfus accuses this blog of being a pro Microsoft blog. (notice the blogroll on his site) I’m not sure what gave him that idea, but the more I think about it, the more I agree.
I’ll give you some reasons why I am pro Microsoft.
Windows XP SP 2, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Flight Simulator, Windows Live Onecare, Windows Defender, Virtual PC, Windows Vista, Windows Media Player, Windows Live Messenger, Windows Live Writer, Windows Server 2003, Microsoft Exchange Server, Windows Mobile, Internet Explorer 7, Visual Studio, Windows XP Tablet Edition, Windows Media Center 2005, Windows Desktop Search, Encarta, Streets and Trips, Microsoft Money, Microsoft Works, etc. etc. etc.
Just imagine if none of those products existed. Yes. I am pro Microsoft. (and also a Microsoft Pro) ![]()

amen. That’s about how my list would look…
Wait. You’re a MS fan because of Works??? How about IE 6?
I don’t use works a whole lot myself. But lots of “beginning” computer users do, and its definitely a cheap starting word processor. I see it as a beginning step to Microsoft Office.
Did I mention IE 6 at all??
*groan* Don’t give them Works! Give them OpenOffice! Lightyears better and cheaper still.
Here’s a list of why I’m anti-Microsoft: Windows XP SP 2, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Flight Simulator, Windows Live Onecare, Windows Defender, Virtual PC, Windows Vista, Windows Media Player, Windows Live Messenger, Windows Live Writer, Windows Server 2003, Microsoft Exchange Server, Windows Mobile, Internet Explorer 7, Visual Studio, Windows XP Tablet Edition, Windows Media Center 2005, Windows Desktop Search, Encarta, Streets and Trips, Microsoft Money, Microsoft Works, etc. etc. etc.
Trust me, hans. I have given it to some of my clients, but quite frankly.. OpenOffice stinks..
you don’t use any of those programs, hans??
Frankly, OpenOffice doesn’t stink. Try using it again. It’s changed since version 0.39. I use OpenOffice all the time and I have free access to MS Office 2000, 2003, and Vista Premium Super-Duper Deluxe Professional Editions. Even with those available, I would take and do take OpenOffice any day. Especially over, *shudder*, Works!
Yes, I do use many of those… and try to maintain a Christian tongue when I use them.
Two of the few worthy MS programs are: Windows Movie Maker and Windows Media Encoder. I use Encarta, but my offline copy of Wikipedia is rapidly supplanting my Encarta use. MS does a great job of putting out a free, easy to use, video encoding and editing package. That is the major hole in GPL software: decent video transcoding and editing software.
i agree that Works isn’t for “advanced” users, but you will have to admit that for most people it does the job. Simple spreadsheets, christmas letters, etc. For a lot of people, MS Works (bundled with a lot of computers) is plain awesome. I personally rarely use Works, and use Microsoft Office almost exclusively. I just don’t like OpenOffice. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
another Microsoft program I should have added to the list is Paint.
*choke, sputter, cough*
While Hans coughs…It’s my opinion that paint is okay for starters, but try Adobe…Illustrator for example (even if I have more experience with Photoshop and InDesign).
One word: GIMP!!
